a. Study how to use an indirect speech in telling a story
In a story, a character may ask something. We call it a direct speech.
For example: ‘Do you know the name of this place?’ asked Princess Pipit.
When we tell a story, we may need to describe or to report what the characters said in the story.
To do this, we can make a direct speech into an indirect speech.
For example:
• Direct speech: ‘Do you know the name of this place?’ asked Princess Pipit
• Indirect speech: Princess Suripit asked if the man knew the name of the place.
